Contests
We had nine lucky prize winners in our first-anniversary giveaway who won nine different prizes. Check out the contests page for all the juicy details on what you missed. Next issue We're running a slightly different format these days. Rather than publish a longer newsletter on a set weekly schedule, we're sending shorter newsletters on an irregular basis these days. Hope you enjoy! Subscriptions You too can receive these newsletters in your e-mail. All you need to do is enter your e-mail address in the form in the top, right-hand corner of any page on the site and click the "GO!" button. So sign up now, eh! Suggestions If you have a suggestion for an article, factoid, joke, statistic or anything else for the newsletter, please send it to our researcher. Any comments about this Web site can be directed to the webmaster. |
About Us. Here you can find some information about us, our mission statement, how to contact us regarding advertising or if you are with the press, and where we stand on some issues that affect you and your interactions with us, such as our privacy policy. Mission statement. FactsCanada.ca aims to inform, acquaint, instruct and inspire by delivering a wide range of historical and current Canadian facts to our readership. The primary vehicle for this will be the publication of articles of a general, concise, unbiased, positive and accurate nature (supplemented occasionally by humour or opinion) on an irregular basis, sent to a mailing list of opt-in subscribers and published on a Web site. The Web site will provide a searchable archive of all material published by FactsCanada.ca, as well as other complementary services. We hope that our readers will also use the Web site as a stepping stone to investigate in more detail those articles which pique their interest. Who are we? We plan to have some information (and maybe some ugly pictures) about the two of us here soon. Any day now. Really. Advertising. We do not currently have a formal advertising policy for our site or newsletters, although we currently do neither. If you are interested in reaching our readership, please contact Craig to discuss the possibilities. Thanks. Media contact. The principals of FactsCanada.ca are available for interviews by the media. We don't receive many requests right now... in fact we usually have to resort to begging, but we'll work on a comprehensive media kit during our loads of spare time. If you'd like to introduce us and our publication to your viewers, listeners or readers, please contact Craig. Thanks! Press releases. FactsCanada.ca is not, by definition, a current events or "news" newsletter, a vehicle for announcements, or even something remotely resembling an on-line newspaper. Please do not add us to the press release mailing list of your company or organization without our permission. However, we may occasionally publish an article entitled "Events and Happenings" in which we'll announce a selection of events of broad appeal taking place in areas that are accessible to a large population. That rules out high-school dances, whether they be in Spuzzum, British Columbia, or Toronto, Ontario. However, an event such as the Abbotsford Airshow, which has broad appeal but which actually takes place away from a densely populated area, would qualify. Certain reunions which would draw participants from places distant to the location of the event might also qualify. If you know of or represent an event we should include in the newsletter, please feel free to send the following details to us through our Web-based contact form:
Our history. To find out a bit about why and how FactsCanada.ca even started in the first place, you need to read the first few issues. Back then it was just something that John wanted to do. He started on Canada Day in 2000 by sending some information about the day to a few friends, who sent it to some of their friends, and so on, and so on, and so on.... He carried on for a couple of Sundays, and the Sunday Newsletter evolved into a fact-based, general-interest newsletter covering several topics. John then decided to get serious. After writing eight Sunday Newsletters and enlisting the help of a couple of friends, John started to get requests for in-depth articles and a more frequent publishing schedule. Thus was born the Friday Feature, written (for the most part) by Mike and covering a single topic each week. Due to health reasons, Mike had to leave us in February 2001. (Rumours of a coup d'état have been greatly exaggerated.) Because John and Craig were already over-extended in their respective lives (aren't we all?), it was decided that the Friday Feature would only be published on the first Friday of every month until such time as it was feasible to return to the original weekly schedule. The Sunday Newsletter, which became the flagship of this soon-to-be media giant (look out AOL / Time Warner!), was a longer newsletter with more and shorter snippets of Canadian information and trivia. The Friday Feature was usually a shorter newsletter, but comprised of only a single article with a more in-depth treatment than was possible on Sundays. Late in 2001 not long after September 11th and the terrorist attacks on the United States John and Craig desperately needed a break from the pressures of a weekly deadline on top of other pressures in their lives at that time. During that hiatus, which lasted until the New Year, we published "re-runs" of newsletters that ran the year before at the same time. Our return was short-lived, however, as we had not resolved some of the issues which caused us to take a break in the first place. We then took a few steps back and decided to "re-invent" FactsCanada.ca. How's that going? That's for you to decide as you take a look around our Web site. Privacy and copyright issues. We are concerned about your privacy. As such we have developed a privacy policy. We are also concerned about copyright issues both that others do not violate our copyright over our work, and that we do not inadvertently violate the copyright of someone else. Please read our copyright notice. |
